Education on Hate Crimes |
Good Afternoon Resident
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of visiting Five Acre Wood School in Snodland to deliver an input on Hate Crimes to some of their older students. I chose to run the sessions in small groups, which created a more relaxed environment where we could talk openly, encourage engagement, and allow the students to share their own thoughts and experiences. Five Acre Wood is a Foundation District Special School supporting children and young people with Profound, Severe and Complex Learning Difficulties, including those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Because of the vulnerabilities and challenges their students may face, discussing hate crime with them is incredibly important. Not only might they be more at risk of becoming victims, but some may also unknowingly commit offences without fully understanding the impact of their actions. Education is one of the most effective tools we have. By equipping young people with the right knowledge, understanding, and confidence, we can help keep them safe—while also guiding them to make positive and informed choices.
